Springtime at the Capitol

Hi guys! If you are a Utah local, I am assuming you have been to the Utah capitol building in downtown Salt Lake City in the springtime. Since we just moved here (in January), I was unaware that it was a THING.

I was lucky enough to win a mini photoshoot with the amazing photographer Kenzie D. (@kennydawn on IG), and she told us to meet her on the north side of the capitol. Boy were we in for a treat! It was a beautiful day and the trees were in full bloom.

It is funny to move somewhere where the downtown area is somewhere you actually want to go and hang out, and not feel creeped out or scared the whole time you are there (read, downtown LA). Here are a few snapshots from the day, professional & not.

Help me with LIGHTING!

So we have been in our new house for over 2 months now, and I’m dying to start upgrading and changing out the “standard building” lighting. These equals a lot. Chandeliers in the entry, dining room, and over the landing in the stairway, flush mounts in a couple halls, and 3 bathrooms. I’ve been searching around, I don’t want to buy the first thing that stands out to me, I have to let things marinate, get a good deal, and ask everyone I know what they think. I don’t have an eye for interior design, I would rather just someone tell me exactly what to get and where, and they install it for me, haha! Here are some that have caught my eye…

Easter with ASOS

Easter is just around the corner, and I turned to my favorite, trusty ASOS to find the perfect Sunday outfits! I love ASOS because I can literally always find something within my budget. No matter if I’m willing to spend a little bit more on a good dress, or I want just a plain tee, I always end up happy! They have good deals going on often too, like right now they have 10% off if you are a student, and free shipping when you spend over $40! Sounds like a good deal to me. Here are a few of my personal favs–

Our Favorite Shoes…and a GIVEAWAY!

If you know us at all, you know that we love our Freshly Picked moccs. They were the first pair of shoes I had gotten for Saylor, and we wore those babies for a YEAR straight. She had tiny feet as a baby, and they literally were the only shoes that stayed on, weren’t ginormous, and were so cute! Her first pair was PLATINUM and they matched everything! Highly recommend that color.

Freshly Picked is a small (well not “small” in the sense of it being little anymore) business out of Provo, UT. A hard working, determined mama started this company all by herself with a few random scraps of leather and has grown this company to be pretty much a household name. This company gives back so much, is always up to do a giveaway, and hosts warehouse sales around the nation so we can score awesome deals if you don’t like paying full price!

A New Cookie Recipe!

Hi guys! So if you know me, you know that I have perfected the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe (which I will share later), and I don’t stray from it. The other day my sis told me that she was given a new cookie recipe that I had to try, and that it might give my recipe a run for its money! Too good to be true?! You be the judge.

Saylor helped me whip up a quick batch yesterday…she likes being included in things and feeling like she is helping me. I love that about this age…even if it really just makes more of a mess, haha.

The Ultimate Debate…

…between Swig and Sodalicious. That’s right, I’m here to let you know which is better. Well, maybe not better, but I’m going to break down the differences in drinks, cookies, price, and service!

Before moving to Utah, the closest thing we had in California to a “cutesy drive through personalized soda stand with cookies” was Sonic, ha. So you can understand my excitement. I love cookies! And I love Diet Coke with flavoring! Every basic mom’s dream! We moved just a few miles away from a Swig, with a Sodalicious not much further away. Because Swig was in my path of driving, that is where I would frequent.  One day I had the brilliant idea to compare the 2 places. People up here seem fiercely loyal to either one or the other.  I had to dissect the differences and figure out what differences, if any, there were. Aren’t you so happy I am doing this for you?

Jackson Hole Weekend Trip

Hi all! Life, like always, has been busy around here. This past weekend we spent some time in Jackson Hole, WY. Our good friends have a condo there, so we stayed with them. They are about 5 minutes past actual “downtown” Jackson Hole (you know, where the famous antler arches are), right at the base of the gorgeous Tetons. It is always so nice to get away, spend some time together as a family, and enjoy nature!

We didn’t have much planned, aside from a sleigh ride through the Elk Refuge! Although we have been to Jackson Hole a few times, we have never done this before. I highly recommend it! And definitely do it when it is sunny and (warmer) out, as soon as that sun goes down the slightest bit or the wind kicks up, it gets FREEZING! Luckily they have blankets on each sleigh for everyone to use. Now when I say sleigh, its basically a large wagon pulled by 2 horses, so don’t get confused, haha! Saylor loved being able to see loads of “elks” and being pulled by horsies. On the refuge there are many different types of animals besides elk; bison, wolves, bald eagles…we only saw elk though. Tickets for this run about $20/adult, $15/child, and 4 years old and under are free!

Bathing Suit Blues

Well, it is that time again! Spring is right around the corner and you start thinking about vacations, and warm weather, and the unavoidable bathing suits. Haha. Unless you live in Southern California that is, where it is always a perfect 85 degrees and you can wear a bathing suit year round.

If you are like me, I am always on the hunt for the perfect suit! You know, comfortable, cute, not too revealing, a reasonable price…all the good things. Luckily, one pieces and not-so-skimpy two pieces have been on the trend lately, so that gives us a lot more options! I have a hard time paying, actually I just will not pay, more than like $80/$90 for a swim suit, I just can’t do it. I’ve scoured the internet and found some of the best suits for the best prices (in my opinion) 🙂

Bath Time Faves!

Today I am going to talk about my favorite bath products and company for Saylor (even for myself!). I am sure you have all heard of Tubby Todd by now, but let me tell you my experience with them and why I will never use anything else for my kids!

I discovered Tubby Todd on Instagram, and finally bought her bath set at the Mom Made Market in San Diego (side note, if you’ve never been to that, you must go). The Bath Set includes bath wash, lotion, and bubble bath. The first thing I noticed was the SMELL. Everything smells divine! Not too strong or overpowering, but the perfect amount. If you have ever been on Soarin’ Over California at California Adventures, the bubble bath smells like the orange groves! Or if you have ever driven through the orange groves in Redlands when they are blooming,  you know exactly what I am talking about! The lotion and bath wash are lavender scented, which of course everyone loves. It is also calming, which is pretty much a necessity when you have a crazy toddler! Now this bath wash lathers better than anything else I have ever tried, and I really appreciate that. A lot goes a long ways with these products! Another plus is that everything is all natural, and super good for sensitive skin and skin prone to eczema.
